What is Pedal Power?
Pedal Power is an initiative that aims to support people with access to employment, education and training by providing low cost bike rental. The scheme also allows people to access a bike in order to improve their health or wellbeing.
How is it funded?
East Sussex County Council successfully secured Department for Transport Access Funding, to deliver a programme of cycling and walking initiatives, and this is referred to as ‘East Sussex Active Access for Growth Programme. The funding period has now expired but we have designed for project to be self sustainable allowing it to continue.

Who can apply?
Anyone over the age of 18 years can apply to get a bike, but you must live within the East Sussex County Council area and be using the bike to get to work.
How long can I rent a bike for?
You can choose to rent a bike for a period of bewteen 1 and 6 months.
What is provided with the bike?
All our bikes are fitted with mudguards, luggage rack and good quality lock. You also have the option of buying a helmet, USB lights, pannier bags and hi -visibility vest.
How long will it take to get a bike?
Once you have signed up it will normally take between 7 to 10 days to complete the paperwork and arrange a bike for you.
How do I pay for the rental?
You pay for your bike rental monthly in advance by credit card or direct debit.
Can I extend the rental period?
The maximum loan period is 6 months, so can you rent a bike up to this time limit.
Do I have to pay a deposit?
No, a deposit is not required so that we keep the initial costs as low as possible for you. However you will be liable for the cost of repair or replacement of any parts damaged through misuse.
What happens if the bike gets stolen or damaged?
Provided that you have locked the bike as we demonstrate to you, then the bikes are covered by our insurance. Otherwise, you are liable for the replacement cost of the bike and equipment. In any event you will need to contact the police and obtain a crime reference number from them.
